Lights, colors, desserts and family are few keywords that represent every festival in our country. And Diwali be no exception. With the festival just around the corner, I’m sure we all have started stocking up our shelves with desserts and sweets for the festivities that mark the next few days.

In my last post on 7 Ways to Enjoy a Pet-Friendly Diwali, I spoke about why dawgies should be kept away from sweets. But what’s Diwali if you couldn’t share a treat or two with your best buddy? So here are some simple DIY Diwali treat recipes for your pooch. They take under 15 minutes to make, from start to finish, and can be prepared in your kitchen microwave. They’re natural and nutritious, for the diet-conscious dawgies. What’s more? They’re hooman-friendly, so you can share them safely with your furry baby!

FUN FACT: Making them on your own will also fill them with your smell and love. And I can tell that your dawgie will not love anything better.

1. Honey Oatmeal Banana Treats

You’ll need:

Coconut Oil – 2 tbsp, melted
Egg – 1
Organic Jaggery Powder – 2 tbsp
Oatmeal Flour or Flakes – 2 cups
Banana – 1 medium sized, peeled and mashed
Honey – 2 tsp
Fish Oil (Optional) – 1 tsp

You’ll need to:

Mix all the ingredients into a tight cookie dough and let it rest for 5 minutes. Roll it till about half a centimeter in thickness and cut them out into your favorite shape. Arrange the treats in a microwave safe baking dish on a butter paper and microwave at High for about 5 minutes, while giving a break of 45 seconds after every 2 minute. Make sure the treats are cooled and removed from the butter paper before you or your dawgie pounces on them.

Post pictures of your treats and your dawgie in the comment box below. Use hashtag #DawgieDiwali on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. We’ll share the best few on our social media pages.

Enjoy Diwali with your dawgie with these delicious treats. Of course, don’t feed your Fido too many of these too soon. Tell us how he liked it? Got new ideas for variants, post them in the comments below.

Here’s an idea for a social experiment: Everyone is familiar with that look when our dawgies come asking for the food we’re eating. We generally cave in to those eyes and are forced to share a bite. But how about you try it back at your puppy? Will your best friend share his treat with you? Let me know how it goes!

From everyone at DawgieBowl, I wish you and your furry friends a very happy, safe and prosperous Diwali. And remember, firecrackers are not for dawgies.
